A study of the historical background and themes of the OT books giving an overall perspective on the message of the OT in the light of its contemporary setting. Covers creation, fall, flood, Abrahamic covenant, Patriarchs, exodus, Mosaic covenant, tabernacle and other issues within the Pentateuch. Also covers sacrifices, feasts, wanderings in the wilderness, conquest, judges, Kings, exile and return from exile.

CHM 121 Prayer and Christian Ministry I
This two semester course is a blend of teaching and experience in the foundations of Christian Ministry. The lifestyle of the believer (prayer and fasting) and the message of the believer (The Kingdom of God is at hand) will be the central focus. Each week students will gather at the University of Minnesota campus to work with local campus ministers and both learn about, but also experience the fundamentals of evangelism, disciple making and church planting. Another key piece of this course will be the student’s participation in a weekly corporate prayer time which will focus on worship and praying the Scriptures in interceding for a variety of prayer
issues.

This course not only equips students with knowledge of fundamental skills required for adequate preparation for ministry but actually requires students to begin those preparations. Building a support team, fundraising, acquiring visas and emergency planning are just a few of the areas in which students will be prepared for either their Global Internship or another ministry venture in the future.

Kingdom Lifestyle Week
Apostolic ministry is composed of three basic elements: the message of the Kingdom, the lifestyle of the Kingdom, and the power of the Kingdom. This week is devoted to studying and practicing realities of the Kingdom lifestyle which are summed up in Jesus’ teachings in the Sermon on the Mount. It is required of all full-time students every semester, graded on a pass/fail basis with your attendance determining your grade. It is zero credit and meets for one week every term.

This course is designed to create in students a deep hunger and passion for the word of God and provide them skills to explore God’s Word through the inductive study method. Through learning these inductive Bible study methods and applying them by studying in full the gospel of John students will grow in their passion and understanding of how to study all of God’s Scriptures.

MIS112 Missions II
The Bible is a book about God’s mission from the first to the last chapter. Often missions is minimized to the great commission when mission has been deep in the heart of God since creation. Students will recognize God’s heart for missions from creation, through the covenants with the Patriarchs and all the way through to His future return. The Book of Acts will be covered as the church emerges from Judaism and the New Testament church begins her mission.

This course deals with the Nature and Function of the church by highlighting the 36 major metaphors found in the New Testament describing the church. An introduction to Biblical Eschatology and Spiritual Warfare are also included.

MIS221 The Suffering Church
The early church expected to suffer, it was part of the known cost of following Christ. This suffering has gone on through each generation since and will intensify as we approach the return of the Lord. Western missionaries have historically been more protected from intense suffering but must be prepared for it as well as be prepared to serve a suffering church. This course establishes a theology for suffering from both New and Old Testament with a focus on the book of Job.
